Along
a dim, secluded trail, one day,
deep
in the shadows of a quiet wood,
I
saw a pool where waterlilies lay,
flowering,
it seemed, in lonely solitude.
But
ah, not so! Their petals lured the breeze
to
pause and kiss them on its restless flight,
they
flaunted beauty for the encircling trees
and
kept a tryst with stars each silver night.
Each
blossom like a chalice held the dew,
for
them the water sang its lullaby,
they
heard the matins of the birds and knew
the
benediction of the evening sky.
