Okay a little about me if you are interested (and you must be or you wouldn't be here <g>). My name is Janice (Jan to my friends). I was born in Tasmania, which for the uninitiated is an island state of Australia. I was educated at Huonville High School in the beautiful Huon Valley, renowned worldwide for its apple exports for many years and now many other products. My upbringing was very uncomplicated, living in the country with seven brothers and sisters. My parents never owned a car so we 'made do' with what we had. I don't ever remember being bored, there was always so much to do.

After finishing school I headed to the big city (Hobart) to begin my working life. After a few years the travel bug hit and I headed to the mainland of Australia. Then came men and children. I had (and have) three daughters. Monique, Nicolette and Heidi-Anna. Monique has made me a grandmother six!!! times over (- perhaps it is time I told her what causes it?????) Heidi just had her first (a girl - Richelle) December 28 1999 (didn't quite make a millennium baby)

I brought these girls up primarily as a single Mum having left the older two girls' father when they were 2 1/2 and 18 months. We battled on quite happily for a few years, managing on government benefits, then I met and married Heidi's father. That marriage was short lived as well and once again we were a one parent family, now with a 15 month old toddler as well.

So onwards and upwards we moved. I won't say it was all easy, but it was mostly uncomplicated. We managed fine on the benefits once again, only this time I had a mortgage over my head as well. The belt stayed tight for a lot of years until the magical day when the house was mine!!! Nothing spectacular by any standards - but mine. (28/3/2000) I can now rephrase that!!! It is no longer mine - my daughter, Nicolette is now the proud owner of the house!! I am again moving onwards and upwards. I am going to make a new life for myself in the tropical city of Darwin.....The 'Top End' of Australia!!

Eventually a little older and a lot wiser (or vice versa?) I find all the girls have flown the coop and I was totally alone. But do I let that worry me? No! Time for me now!! I decide to venture into re-education with the idea of getting qualifications to join the work force. So I choose computer studies. 2 years down the track, I now have a couple of certificates and learnt heaps about computers, and all their little idiosyncrasies. And here I am now, trying to put a page or twenty together and seriously looking for work in the computer industry!! As an update to this information, I have a great interest in making graphics and have started a page, only of backgrounds at present, but as I get more experience, will add to this. I am also interested in starting up a small business in Web Page Design. If you know of anyone that needs assistance with this, please let me know:-)) As a further update, I had 10 weeks as a tutor for Excel spreadsheets (a whole 2 hours a week) And 2.5 hours as an administrative assistant where I have been volunteering my services, teaching web page design and database and now that I am in Darwin, am open to anything in this field.
